Because of the big amount of tourists attending the Classic Inca Trail, the Peruvian government limited the number of people per day on the trek to reduce the damage for the Ancient Inca road. Most popular alternative is Short Inca Trail 2D/1N. You still will get experience a part of real Inca Trail without camping. Weather in December 2018
The weather during the Inca Trail splits in two main yearly seasons. Dry season starts April until September, dry season is also high season for travelers, the wet season called summer starts in October until March. The average temperature during the days in December is 18°C and nights up to 4°C. During the December the rain possibility is 50%, but days still brings lots of sunshine and you are able do the Inca Trail.
Celebrations in December 2018
- Chocolatadas. Throughout the Christmas season- the gesture from people or organizations offer a bit of Christmas cheer to poor children or pensioners giving them a cup of chocolate, some bread or cake, some sweets or a toy.
- 24 December. Santirantikuy “the selling of the saints.” On December 24th, hundreds of artisans come to Cusco from the surrounding area to lay their blankets (mantas) on the sidewalks -a custom in traditional Andean fairs- and sell carved Nativity handicrafts.
- From 24 December to January 6. Nacimientos /Nativity Scenes. The Andean people put together Nativity scenes in churches and homes, perform dances and plays, and cook typical dishes.
- December 31 – New Year’s Eve – Many discoteks and bars have special nights but the place where it all happens is in the Plaza de Armas of Cusco. About 11.30pm locals begin to gather in order to run around the Plaza as the clock strikes 12!
