INCA TRAIL to Machu Picchu CLOSES for FEBRUARY 2019

The Famous INCA TRAIL to Machu Picchu will close on FEBRUARY 2019

Every year the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is closed during the month of February. During this time the entity responsible for the Inca Trail works to keep the Inca Trail well maintained and clean so that when March 2019 comes it will be ready for visitors again. Camping areas are cleaned, plants are trimmed, and repairs are made.

Another reason for closing the Inca Trail is that during the month of February there are often heavy rains that make hiking the Inca Trail difficult. The Inca Trail will be opened as normal after the month of February 2019.

This does not mean that you cannot see Machu Picchu in February though. Machu Picchu is still opened as it is during the rest of the year 2019, and you can arrive by train or any of the other normally available options. And of course, you can still visit other sites in the Cusco area and around Peru which will not be affected by the closure of the Inca Trail.

Those who want to hike the Inca Trail in 2019 can make reservations for any other month, except for February when it is closed the whole month. So if you want to go on the Inca Trail you need to make reservations in advance since there are a limited number of people allowed to enter the Inca Trail every day, and spaces for the Inca Trail are often not available unless you reserve well in advance.
