This 2 day tour of Machu Picchu by train is great for people who don’t have time for a regular tour (which is longer with visits to more destinations in Peru) or who wish to spend more time in Cuzco or somewhere else. Aguas Calientes and Machu Picchu by Train in 2 Days

Day 1 – Cusco – Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes:

  • Pick up from your hotel in Cusco.
  • 10:30-12:30 We will go to Ollantaytambo by bus.
  • 12:58-14:25 We will go to Aguas Calientes by train.
  • Reception at the train station in Aguas Calientes.
  • We will take you to your hotel in Aguas Calientes.
  • 19:00-19:15 Briefing of your tour by your tour guide.

As an alternative you can choose the afternoon itinerary for Day 1:

  • 16:30 – 18:30 Bus trip from Cusco to Ollantaytambo Train Station
  • 19:00 – 20:45 Train trip from Ollantaytambo Train Station to Aguas Calientes town (Machu Picchu).
  • 21:00 – 21:15 Our guide will visit you in your hotel to give you the tour briefing.

Day 2 – Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco:

  • Pick up from your hotel in Aguas Calientes.
  • 6:00-6:30 We will go by bus to Machu Picchu.
  • 07:00-10:00 Hike to Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu mountain if requested.
  • 10:00-12:30 Guided tour of Machu Picchu, one of the seven wonders of the world.
  • You will have free time to continue exploring and to take pictures.
  • Free time to return to Aguas Calientes by bus, have lunch, and look around the town.
  • 6:45-8:20 Train to Ollantaytambo.
  • 8:30-10:30 Return to Cusco by bus from Ollantaytambo.
Machu Picchu 2-day tour in detail

Day 1 Machu Picchu Tour: Cusco – Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes

We will pick you up from your hotel in the morning (about 10:20 am) and head to Aguas Calientes, a town near Machu Picchu.  We will travel by bus and train, arriving at about 2:25 p.m. You will meet with the guide at your hotel at 7:00 pm and he will tell you about the next day’s tour.

You can also choose the afternoon itinerary as follows:

  • 16:30 – 18:30 Bus trip from Cusco to Ollantaytambo Train Station
  • 19:00 – 20:45 Train trip from Ollantaytambo Train Station to Aguas Calientes town (Machu Picchu).
  • 21:00 – 21:15 Our guide will visit you in your hotel to give you the tour briefing.

Day 2 Machu Picchu Tour: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco 

After breakfast in the morning, we will board a bus to go to Machu Picchu from 06:00 am to 06:30 am. Then, we will hike the Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu mountain if requested (this additional destination can be added for 25 USD). The hike will go from 07:00 am to 10:00 am.

The guided tour by Machu Picchu will last about 2 and a half hours from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm.  You will have free time after that to continue looking around on your own and take pictures.  We will then return to Aguas Calientes, where you will have free time in the afternoon to have lunch, visit the town’s hot springs, or its market or museum.  At 6:45 p.m. we will return to Cuzco by bus and train, and arrive at about 10:30 p.m.
