Machu Picchu is a very popular place to visit, and has even been visited by many famous people, including, but not limited to:

Pachacutec. One of the greatest Inca Emperors, he changed the offical language to Quechua. He had a highway system built which was thousands of miles long to connect the empire and administrate it better. He organized the empire, and he was probably the emperor who built Muchu Picchu.

Hiram Bingham. The person who made Machu Picchu known to most of the world, he first visited the site in 1911, and made several more visits in later years.

Cole Porter. The U.S. singer visited Machu Picchu in 1939.  He saw an article about the site, and traveled to Peru to see it.

Pablo Neruda. This Chilean writer visited Machu Picchu in 1943, and his visit inspired one of his most famous works “The Heights of Machu Picchu.”

Che Guevara. He visited in 1952 during his motorcycle trip around South America.  He wrote about his visit to Machu Picchu in his book.

Zac Efron. The U.S. actor visited Machu Picchu in 2013. He was greeted by fans when he arrived at Cuzco Airport.

Abdullah Al-Hussein, the King of Jordan, visited Machu Picchu with a large delegation.

Other famous people who have visited Machu Picchu include Beyone, Ricky Martin, Juanes, Cameron Diaz, Owen Wilson and Jim Carrey.
