Many visitors come to Peru every year to visit the many varied sites in the country. Among the most popular places to visit are the following:

Of course the most well-known site in Peru is Machu Picchu.  So much so that many people in other countries think of Machu Picchu when they think of Peru.  Machu Picchu is located near the city of Cuzco, and can be easily reached from there.  The town of Agaus Calientes is next to Machu Picchu and it has hot springs and places to buy souvenirs.

The city of Cuzco is visited by many people on their way to Machu Picchu.  It has many of its own Inca ruins, as well as colonial buildings, markets, shops, and other places to see.

3. Sacred Valley

The valley near Cuzco has many more Inca ruins, and is a good place to see Quechua culture which has been conserved here.  There are beautiful views of the Andes in this valley. This is a good place to visit along with Machu Picchu.

4. Puno-Lake Titicaca

Puno is a city that is higher than Cuzco, and it is near Lake Titicaca. Lake Titicaca is inhabited by the Uros people who live on man-made islands on the lake. The Lake itself has many beautiful views and is a great place to visit for people who want to get to know about the local Uros people.

5. Arequipa

Arequipa is the 2nd largest city in Peru, and it is near the Colca Canyon, the deepest canyon in the world.  The city itself has attractions such as the monastery.  There are colonial buildings as well. This city is near the foot of the Misti volcano.

5. Lima

Many people stop in Lima on their way to other parts of the country. The capital and largest city, Lima has numerous colonial buildings, ancient ruins, and the Palomino Islands. There are many things to do in Lima since it is one of the largest cities in the world.
